Rewiring your Home

As part of our planned maintenance schedule we will rewire properties every 30 years. If you are due an upgrade soon, we’ll be in touch to let you know which contractor will carry out the work and schedule dates to suit. In the meantime, you may find the following information useful:

Things you need to know

When you are due an upgrade of the electrical wiring in your home we will plan a rewire to ensure that it is in a safe electrical condition and conforms to latest electrical regulations. At present you are likely to have fewer sockets than you need. When your home is rewired we will increase the number of sockets to cope with modern demands. We will fit a modern fuse board, a smoke alarm and extractor fan to your kitchen and bathroom (where possible).

Installation
The work will take approximately three days to complete.

What work will be done?
The work involved will consist of the removal of the existing wiring, sockets, switches and fuse board. We will fit new sockets which can be positioned at a higher or lower level to suit your requirements.

Disruption to your home
We will endeavour to keep the disruption to a minimum but there will be restricted access to your home while the work is being carried out. There will be some noise and workmen will need to be in and out of your home many times.

We will treat your home with courtesy and respect. Dust sheets will be used and the contractor will clean up any mess. All equipment will be packed away at the end of each day.

As a matter of security please do not let any workperson working on behalf of Bromford into your home without requesting to see their identification.

Things you need to do before the work starts
Please remove all personal items from the cupboard where your existing fuse board is located. Move all electrical items (such as TV, stereos) as well as ornaments and pictures to a safe place. You will also need to move furniture and take down lampshades as directed by the contractor. Please note that ornamental or decorative light fittings installed by you will only be refitted if they are electrically safe and conform to the relevant British/European Standards).

Ensure access is available to all rooms and loft space. Move furniture as directed by the contractor.

You should lift existing floor coverings as discussed with the contractor as we cannot be responsible for any damage. Please note that this includes laminate flooring. If floor coverings are not lifted when the contractor arrives they will lift & replace them but are not responsible for any damage.

Please ensure that all pets are kept in a room which is not affected by these works.
