Our Customers Have Gone Fishing

We recently organised a free family fishing day for our customers’ children, at Hillview Fishing Lakes in Twyning.

The children spent the day being coached by some experts from the coarse fishing world, including three times UK coarse fishing champion Jon Arthur. They were given fishing rods to keep and taught how to cast, then catch a fish, and then how to return fish safely to the water.

After a few hours practice, the children were divided into teams and had a competition to see how many fish they could catch in a given space of time.

Each child was presented with a certificate detailing how many fish they had caught. The winning team made up of Jayden, Teagan and Zac, who caught a total of 12 fish, were each presented with trophies by Jon Arthur.

Jon said: “It has been a great day. It has been really good to see young anglers learning to catch fish. They have all gained in confidence as the day has gone on and really got into the spirit of the competition.”

Mel Smalley who brought her three children along to the day said: “Thank you so much. We all had an amazing day. Opportunities like this are very rare and we are very grateful to Severn Vale for the invite.”

Customers enjoying a day of fishing

Severn Vale Housing Chief Executive Tim Knight said: “We are committed to putting on events for our customers and a fishing day at the start of the school holidays was suggested by one of our Repairs team, Tony Miessner, who is an award winning fisherman.

“We’re very grateful to Tony who kindly donated some of his fishing prize money to buy the rods and to our sponsors Drennan International, Travis Perkins, the Angling Trust and Angling Direct who made the day possible. They put goodie bags together for the children who all went off with very happy smiles on their faces”.
