From 1st July 2007 all enclosed and substantially enclosed premises in the workplace, including company vehicles became smoke free. It is Severn Vale's policy to ensure that all our workplaces are smoke free and all employees have a right to work in a smoke free environment. The legislation excludes customer's homes, however Severn Vale staff may need to visit your home for a length of time to carry out their duties and if you smoke they will be exposed to the risks from the fumes they will inhale. We would like to ask for your help to ensure that our staff are not exposed to second hand smoke. We do not expect you to give up smoking because of this, but would be grateful if you would ensure that our staff are not exposed to passive smoke during their visit. Just ensuring that doors are kept closed to the area where they are working will help and allowing them to open windows to give them fresh air will lessen any potential damage to their health. You may be asked by a member of our staff to not smoke whilst they are carrying out their duties or to move into another room, close the door and keep the room they are in well ventilated whilst they carry out their duties. If this is requested and you are not happy to do so, our staff will explain that they will be unable to carry out their duties if you do not comply with this request. If you are still unhappy to stop smoking then our staff will explain that as you have refused their request they will leave your property and you will need to ring the office in order to make alternative arrangements. |
