New Build HomeBuy is designed to offer affordable housing by allowing people to part own and part rent a property. So, for example, you may purchase a share in a property (usually 50% but this varies on each development) and rent the remaining share from the Landlord. You can purchase additional shares in the property, this is called staircasing. This would reduce the amount of rent accordingly. This gives you the chance that in time you will own your own home outright. You can of course remain with your initial share as there is no obligation to staircase.
