Atherton Close is a larger over 60s Retirement Scheme situated in the village of Shurdington. It strongly promotes independent living within your own self contained property but whilst also providing access to a communal room, kitchen, laundry room and gardens. This scheme also provides a residents only car park. Atherton Close provides tenants with 1 bedroom flats in the main section of the scheme and running alongside Atherton Close are 1 bedroom bungalows situated in Lambert Close. The Scheme Manager is on site Monday to Friday providing a ‘friendly neighbour’ service. On top of this service all of the properties are fitted with an emergency pull-cord system which can be activated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The Scheme Manager also organises various events ranging from day trips using the local community buses, mobile chiropodist and hairdressers to internet tuition. All properties within Atherton and Lambert Close are fitted with central heating and double glazing. Those situated on the first floor can be accessed via a lift or stairs. A typical property layout at Atherton is an entrance hall, fitted kitchen, lounge and double bedroom. The bedroom can be accessed via the bathroom or the lounge.
